Friend has an interview in Eircom, in St. Stephen's Green. Wants to know what it is like to work there.

Is it very "unionised" (if you know what I mean)? Is it very Civil Service (if you know what i mean)? Is it a team-based, collaborative, encouraging, enabling environment?

When replying, please be very careful, i am only looking for general comments, definitely not specific rants about individuals or departments.

Thanks.

Anyone work for Eircom?

Don't know if it wuld be a good idea for anyone to even admit to working for Eircom... they'll be avalanched with abuse, costomer complaints and rants! ;)

Why should an employee of Eircom or any other service provider be abused simply because they work for the company? Employees are hardly responsible for charges or other general causes of complaint. I'm assuming any queries are dealt with efficiently and politely. That's a bit like 'shooting the messenger'. While I have transferred to Utv, it was invariably my experience that Eircom employees were very helpful and polite when responding to queries. IMO such personal attacks, as suggested, are simply very bad manners on the part of a complainant.

I remember interviewing for Eircom once, and while waiting to be called noticed the reception area had nothing but union magazines on the tables in the area. Told me enough about where the power lay in the company.

Quote "Eircom employees were very helpful and polite when responding to queries". This may be so but they rarely get problems solved in a satisfactory matter just alot of lip service. Waiting on a landline installation since the Sept 1 and still counting is no laughing matter in this day and age. Incompetent staff arriving at house without prior communication, leaving jobs half done and giving you every excuse possible to not deal with problem. The list goes on. No wonder they get so many complaints when they have a monopoly on landlines yet can't even even manage that. Eircom don't care.

Hi Socky,

Slash asked what it was like to work in Eircom. There are plenty of other threads in AAM and elsewhere that can be used to comment on Eircom's customer service record. Unless Slash cares to contradict me (or the job is in a customer facing department) then perhaps such comments could be made elsewhere?

Thanks,
aj
