We, Mrs. S.L.F and me were looking at getting a new fireplace and then we came across this Kachelofen system for heating the house -looked really interesting - clean , environmentally friendly etc. We were wondering if anyone has had this installed in their house - is it efficient and is it expensive to install , does it require major work to install ? any info welcome.
Hi SLF
I've put a Kachelofen in my new timber frame house. It hasn't been fully commissioned yet as the internal skimming is not completed. It was an Austrian company who built it. The house is fairly open plan so it should provide most of the space heating. I've also put in a small back up boiler, solar panels, and hrv. One fire per day should suffice for most of the year round - all going well of course!

Hi babybuilder I can only assume you are a woman,
it would be sort of strange for a bloke to call himself babybuilder!!!
I've been doing some work on the subject and was talking to a bloke in Austria who put me on to a woman in Dublin, (that doesn't sound right which ever way I turn it around in my head hope Mrs. S.L.F doesn't get the wrong idea), anyway she be coming to see me this coming week. The she being Tanya.
Tanya told me the range of prices start at €7000 and go up from there.
Was it a woman called Tanya you were dealing with?
I understand there is a company in Canada that'll send a kit that a brickie or suchlike can install.
Hello to all here. I apologise for bringing back up an old old old post, but I am now as per the opening poster considering putting in this type of system. I am wondering how you guys got on with yours a few years on. Was it a success? and can you recommend an Irish contact/contractor to deal with to get the job done?
