Gurnee is 42 miles from Chicago, about an hours drive from the city. Woodbury Common takes closer to 2 hours in my experience, maybe it was just busy that day.
I liked Woodbury Common, don't get me wrong, but it took a precious NY day. Gurnee took half a Chicago day.

I like going from Wednesday to Sunday, hitting WC on the Thursday and then spending the rest of the time in Manhattan.
With the currency situation the value is amazing.
Did 7 days there in Jan and still couldn't sacrifice a day for WC...too much to do!
Downtown Macy*s and Bloomingdales both do discount cards for visitors, about 11% I think, and the discount applies to almost everything, including sale items.
Most other stores do discount/sales rails and if you're feeling particularly in need of a rummage for a bargain there's always Century 21.
My fave discount place is DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse) at Union Square (there's also one near Ground Zero).

Century 21 is a dump...used to be good but companies now manufacture rubbish which goes directly there so you're not getting items which were originally more expensive.
My other half likes that shoe place too and yeah, the 11% is great.
Don't forget Victoria Secrets for the girls (and the guys!)
