Any recommendations for online community services

Hi - I was trying to use Smartgroups to set up an online community (email distribution list, file sharing, shared calender), but their email services seems to have been very unreliable recently. Other posters on their support forum mention delays of weeks.

I don't like Yahoo because of the complex registration process. I need to make this as simple as possible for the group participants. Has anyone had any good experiences with other alternatives?

If you can do it inhouse it's probably better as you will have more control. I think [broken link removed]might be suitable

Thanks Blacknight - But I'm not up to scripts. I'm really looking for a hosted solution, something like Yahoo (but without the long drawn out registration) or Smartgroups (without the unreliable email).

I found a few Sharepoint host sites which support most of my requirements and offer free trials, but I'm hoping there should be a long-term free solution out there somewhere.
