Any recommendations for mailing list software?

Hi all,

Does anybody have any recommendations on mailing list software for use by a small business who wants to send a monthly newsletter to its contact database (currently around 3,000 contacts)?

Listserv has been recommended but despite calling them 3 times nobody there seems to want to talk to me about prices - anybody with any other recommendations?

I have Googled but came up with too many choices - and these days it's hard to know how independent the client testimonials and reviews are.

Any help or advice appreciated.
