Any ideas on energy efficient/eco friendly lighting for an extension??

Looking to buy some light fixtures for a new extension including kitchen/diner a with vaulted ceiling. Woulod like to make them as energy efficient as possible. I origianlly wanted down lighters recessed into the ceiling but they don't take CFL bulbs. Anyone any ideas on what else we could use instead of just the normal central pendant type lighting. or is there a CFL downlighter maybe??

I had heard by swapping out the halogen bulbs in my current downlighters and replacing them with LED I could cut the running cost.

We have CFLS in downlighters....had to buy the surround, openback fitting and bulb seperately, was a little dearer than the set.
I really wanted these and just got very cheap white surrounds so they blend into the ceiling.
The light was a bit dim at first but does increase over time or maybe we have just gotten used to not having a glaringly bright house.
Got all of these in a good electrical wholesalers in Limerick and loads of advice from the lads there too.
These will apparently take LEDs also.
