I need to get a window pane replaced in one section of my front window.
Double glazed in a teak wood frame, 18" x 21"

Any idea how much this is likely to cost me?

If you were diy get the measurement and go to Glass2Glass over in Ballymount and it would cost you about €40+21%vat plus the cost of pins and a tube of silicone.

To get someone to do it for you would cost between €150 and €200.

is it much of a job to take out the existing pane?

would I end up damaging the wooden lengths holding it on?

The way I normally do it is to slide a painters scrape into the joint then get a second one in the same position then place a chisel in between them thus I don't mark the slips.

Take it easy and take your time.

Do a long one first and the first one is always is the hardest to do, when you have the first long one out do the 2 small ones then the last long one!

When you have the slips out use a thin knife to cut the old D/G unit from the window frame

You'll probably need a bit of help to remove the glass as you can only push from 1 side and to catch it you'll have to be on the other side.

Then use a sharp chisel to remove some of the old silicone from the frame, plant a bead of silicone into the frame install your new glass then re-fix your slips.

Simple!

Thanks a lot folks especially SLF. Might try it myself. I might wait until the warmer weather just in case I have the glass out for longer than I expect it to be
