Had a quick look through some of the key post links but didnt really find a definitive solution to opening a euro denominated bank in the UK with the likes of Northern Rock / Barclays / HSBC etc (no interest in opening a stg account and taking on the currency risk although I must admit at current exchange rates and given where I think the euro could do this might be an option to consider for some funds in the medium term).
I know I can open an account with Northern Rock or RaboDirect here but in the unlikely but possible scenario of Ireland leaving the Euro I would prefer not to have everything in banks that can be dictated to by the Irish govt.
I am not sure what the situation is with regard to say opening a euro account with the likes of UB in the north but I would be in London more often than NI so I guess UK is an easier solution for me to consider.
Has anyone bothered going down this route and what has been your experience in terms of getting the account opened and transferring funds in and out?
