Any chance of Stamp Duty increase

Hi currently in the middle of house purchase and doing the sums looks like I will have no savings left once everything is paid out. A stamp duty increase in the budget would really make it difficult. Any talks/chance of this happening. Currently I would pay 1% and could totally not afford 2%.

There is always a chance ,,,,,, but i've seen nothing in the media so far to suggest it happening - plus isnt Stamp duty one of the taxes that the ECB etc doesnt like

Are you paying cash for the house? -- If funding the purchase by mortgage an interest rate rise would be as much of an issue

have a read of the transitional arrangements that were part of 2012 budget.

A stamp duty change is very unlikely but if it is than there maybe transitional arrangements put in place.

Yeh housing market on its knees wouldnt be the time to increase stamp duty.

Its probably very very low on their list of priorities

There is the property charge/tax though. A few months ago it was reported (true or untrue who knows) that it would be based on the house value. So while there may not be an increase in stamp duty there is a good chance there will an increase in the household charge.
