Any chance of AH prices coming down?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone thinks there is a chance asking prices for affordable houses will come down, what with the credit crunch, oil going up in price so rapidly and seeming to be no end of rises in sight, electricity going up by 17% or whatever and now talk of gas prices going up 35% over 2 hikes soon?

Surely these factors have to be taken into account the same way as house prices coming down the same way as on the open market though maybe not quite as much??

What do people think?

Hi queenlex, either they'll come down or scheme will be scrapped altogether. People simply not coming near being able to get a mortgage for the amounts they are asking for some developments so something has to give. I suppose it'll come down to when the deals were done with the developers etc, as in in some situations the council may have paid over the "cost price" to developers long before the current conditions came into play.

Yeah thats what I was thinking, I think it would be terrible if it was scrapped though, for 1st time buyers who just want somewhere to live. There are some areas like this where I certainly think the market should not totally dictate the price (another being health as an aside).

Thanks for the response monos,
