Any alternative to Google Groups?

Set up a Google group for 22 colleagues recently and already meeting its limitations. Not being able to edit my posts (or others') is the worst. Also would like to change order of posts, avoid quoting message in response etc. Very few options in Google and what's there one day is sometimes not available the next. Gah! - are Groups the only thing Google don't do well?

What- if anything - out there is better, preferably free or low-cost, and user-friendly ?
