Hi All.

Im orginally from Dublin but have been living in the Uk with my husband for the past 5 years. We have our house for sale and are hoping to move home in the next few months. We are considering trying for baby no2 shortly, but am worried I wont get any maternity benefit as I havent been in the country for so long or paying PRSI. Would I be right? Woudl I even get a basic allowance?

Thanks

Julie

Hi,
I dont think you will be entitled to any maternity benefit.
You should look at www.citizensinformation.ie . The criteria for qualitifying for MAt Benefit is explained.
There is a wealth of information about living in Ireland which you might find useful.

If you have UK National Insurance contributions then you may get Irish PRSI credits for these. www.welfare.ie may have some info about this. If not just give them a call or drop into your local welfare centre. Once you figure that out you can see if you meet the MB qualifying criteria.

If you are working in rhe UK and paying Social Secutity contributions, and pay at least 1 PRSI contribution when you start working in Ireland, your UK contributions can be combined with Irish contributions to help you qualify
