Sad to see an post saving stamps discontinued. It was a nice tradition, and something my kids loved the whole ritual of buying the stamps in school and brining the books to local post office to lodge . Put away a nice bit over the years and established a saving habit that will hopefully last. Pity its gone, for sustainability reasons I heard.

Dunnes Stores Savings Stamps are a much better deal and they give some free stamps too.

I have book of them for 5 pounds from 1979, from my Grandad's late sister. Hadn't the heart to cash them in.

I'd completely forgotten about Post Office savings stamps and this thread has triggered a lot of nostalgia about them... :)

Yes, great feelings of nostalgia. I attended a small rural national school in the 80s, and one of the jobs you took turns in when in more senior classes was to go around and take stamp orders and collect money from the classes in the morning, then go to the village post office to buy the stamps during the break, and distribute them later in the day.
So much of that now seems unbelievable - a lost world!
