An airbag for cyclists

But 650 wouldn't go too far in a dentist chair.....ouch
And you think that this vest is going t protect your teeth, its not designed to protect your face only your thorax, neck and back

But the helmet doesn't help the rest of the body, the airbag does.
In all my years of cycling from a little nipper to the big boy stuff, only once in the many and I mean many, many accidents/crashes have I ever done damage to my body and that was a broken bone in my small finger other then that it was just scrapes and cuts
Yes, some people are more prone to accidents then others and they could have life changing event from a simple fall but in my opinion this vest is overkill and a waste of money and your money would be better spent on a good helmet and some high viz items but more importantly learning how to cycle properly in the area you are cycling

Ah, there is another one for the head.

I think that looks great. It's not bulky (except when inflated) and doesn't look heavy etc.

For me, the head is the most important part of the body, to try and protect, if we are thinking about people coming off bikes.

I've no idea on the cost, but would love to see that become a compulsory requirement for all cyclists (no doubt or could be made affordable, if bought in bulk, even with a little subsidy).

It can't do any harm anyway...
I know of some people who damaged teeth from a fall from bicycles ...

Spend a few bob on gel cycling gloves - they can save your wrist from breaking in a fall. Believe me, I know and have the scar to prove it.

As a kid, I fell off my bike frequently. I bounced back up.

But as you get older, you bounce a lot less. In my 60s, falls are very damaging.

If we are going to make things compulsory and if the object is to avoid head injuries then I think we should examine the figures first. For example, how many people injure their heads falling down stairs compared to how many people injure their heads cycling? Then we can decide which is more important, should it be compulsory for walking down stairs or compulsory for cycling.

Aye, I know of a few people who have had facial injury's from cycling including my brother who knocked his two front teeth out
But if a person is really worried about facial injury's while out cycling there is already a tried and tested product for that
A full face helmet which again can be bought for considerably less than this vest

Maybe time to look at a pair of stabilizers or a tricycle ;)

I do totally agree with you as you get older simple accidents that you would have brushed off in our younger years can be "very damaging" and take a lot longer to recover from, it's one of the reasons why I'm not cycling at the moment, the fear of the next accident coming my way

I'm not saying that the vest is a bad idea per se, anything that offers protection to a cyclist has it's merits but I just don't see this as a commercial success and therefore in my opinion not a "good idea" and a non starter for me

The cycling helmet and the cycling vest address two separate issues.

But to use your own logic, you could buy a lot of stabilizers for £650

There's a direct relationship between our bouncability and our mobility/fitness level though, as we age. The latter can suffer if you row back on the activity.

Packed in the bike a few years ago because was coming back stressed on how vulnerable I was from the traffic. My preference is to bounce off the (mainly) softish ground of Irish mountains these days whilst trying to maintain the mobility and fitness level.

We can’t get drivers to drive their cars safely @ nil cost - You ain’t gonna get cyclists to shell out £650 for something which might or might not work.

One of these would be more suitable for pedestrians and cyclists in our crime ridden cities.

Rediculous comment - both factually incorrect and provocative!
