Am I right in saying that the new tax year started on April 1st? The reason I ask is that my wages were a good bit more this month and my salary hasnt changed. I sthis the benefit of the budget kicking in?

No, you are not right. You are wrong.

UP to about the year 2000, the tax year ended on 5 April, but since then it has been 31 December.

It could be that your employer was slow to implement the changes in Budget, but these should have been implemented in February.

Or you are earning loads and have already passed the PRSI ceiling!

Lanigano would have to be earning in the region of EUR132,000 per annum to have gone through the PRSI ceiling in April (44,180 ceiling)

A more likely scenario is that your tax credits and SRCOP has only now been updated for 2007 in the payroll system, and you are getting a tax refund.

Compare your March and April payslips to see if this is the case.
