Am I insured once I have been given policy number?

HELP! I got policy number for car insurance on friday. I asked to pay first installment and follow up its full amount early next week. I was told that I either opted for scheduled payments or payment in full and that next week was fine. Had an accident today. Am I covered??

When did you ask for the policy to start? Given you have a policy number, it's almost certainly in place, but you'd need to check obviously. Whether you've actually paid for it or not yet isn't relevant.

I know with Allianz and Aviva anyway and I’m sure many others, you can view documents and manage your policies on line.

If your insurer has this facility you should be able to see your policy’s start date on line.

Have you contacted your insurance co about the accident and are the police involved?

What date is on your certificate?

If the certificate of insurance covers the time you had the accident, then you are insured, provided you pay the premium.

OP, any update since Saturday? Note if you haven't informed your insurance company of the accident yet, you may already be in breech of the terms that could see them refuse cover.
