Am I entitled to Jobseekers benefit

This is going to be a long one. Right in Dec 2006 I was made redundant but I was 7 months pregnant at the time. My job was offshored, I received maternity benefit from the day I was made redundant. I have now been out of work for a year and when I had gone to the social and family welfare office early last year they said I was entitled to nothing unless I was available for full-time work. My husband works and earns about 650 after tax a week. We have a huge morgage and now is job is in trouble. I started looking for night work or evening work and having no look. So would I be entitled to jobseekers even though I am looking for night work as I have three kids now and its impossible to go back to work in Dublin now as I have lost the nanny I had due to being made redundant. Sorry for going on but really scared of losing the house soon enough. Thanks Niamh

No - you need to be available for and seeking full time employment to get Jobseeker's Allowance/Benefit.

Maybe if you post details about your overall financial circumstances (including details of the mortgage) then people can comment further? Have you missed any repayments or built up any arrears on the mortgage?
