Hi,
My daughter was recently diagnosed as being autistic and also having a learning disability, we've been told to apply for domicillary allowance and carer's allowance. Im just wondering if anyone could tell me if I am entitled to any payment while I am waiting to hear back from social welfare, my partner is self employed and his wage varies every week as he works on commission only.
Would be very grateful for any replies.
Thanks

as far as i remember it syas you can apply for emergency support if needed. i assume it would be means tested too.

i applied for carers last september and only heard back last week. It is very stressful awaiting the result when you really need the money.

Hi lorsteph87 Usually when awaiting a decision on another claim for benefit or allowance one is told that they can apply for Supplementary Welfare Allowance which is administered by welfare officers at your local HSE community care/health centre.

It is means tested but claims for this are treated urgently if you satisfy the means test. To speed up things you should bring any bank statements etc with you.

See here for details on Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme. It is means tested, so your husband's income from self-employment will be deducted from any payment you get. They will look initially at his income over the past 12 months and calculate a weekly average which they will use. However, if the past 12 months is not representative of his current income, then you can ask for a different period to be used.
