Alternatives to Stira?

Any builder suppliers sell stairs that are identical to Stira for about €100 and get a carpenter to install the stairs. It takes a carpenter about 2 hours to put one in.

Agreed, I don't think the Stira stairs (least not the one example I saw a few years back) are especially strong or well put together. Attic stairs by Dolle have been recommended on this site before.

we're putting one in at the minute. Can't remember the manufacturer, but it cost €280. Couldn't see the big difference between it and the Stira to be honest; after all , it'll spend 99% of the time in a dark attic.

word of caution on the €100 euro ones (Woodies stock them):

They are only available in 'one size fits all'; however, the ceiling joyces in modern houses are different widths, either 56, 57 or 58cm apart (according to the carpenter).

The expensive (dolle, spaire, etc), come in specific widths for your speciifc house; making the Dolle type ladder seem like the best option, for fit and value.

€460 seems a bit steep for what's essentially a fold-up wooden ladder.
Buy one yourself and fit it, needs to people will take average diy guys about 6 hours to do but worth it no rocket science involved

Took this DIY guy 2 hours to fit a Stira but nearly lost life when trying to screw in one end using a rope to lever one end and holding the other. Ran out of hands to hold cordless.
