Hi there,

Would anyone know if it's possible to power a ground sourced geothermal heat pump system using methods alternative to ESB? eg, solar pv with inverter or wind turbines, or some other method?

Thank you,

ALERT.

Alert,

Short answer to this one im afraid, no!, depending on your heatpump, but generally for a 2500sqft house wind turbine and solar can't produce enough power to run a heat pump. It will help to slow down your ESB meter thats all. So you'll have to weigh up the odds weather you want to spend the excess money to slow down your meter and unlikely get your money back, or pay for a good heatpump installed be competent suppliers, insulate the house to the neck.

there are other 'internal issues' with thi soption such as frequency instability, voltage instability and flicker, co-ordination of protection relays and harmonic disturbance... all which have to be taken into account in the wind turbines workings... which leads to more expensive turbines....
