I'm trying to find out some practicle information on the algae "Dinobyron", i.e. environmental causes, symptoms, effect on pond life esp. fish and of course WTF to do. Have done the searches but to no avail, so any links or the right site is appreciated.

I had a serious algae problem on an inside large tank a few years ago, tried everything, asked all the experts, seemly it all happens from too much light I was told , but eventually got a jar of "Green away", from Aquarium shop, It works with mine, maybe it will work on outside pond,

If this is in a garden pond, you can try the following as a start.
- Get some water lilies. These stop light reaching the water.
- Put some straw into the pond. I don't know why this works, but it does.
- Do you have fish in the pond? Are you over feeding them? Excess nutrients will help the algae thrive.

excuse me, but I should have made it clear that the algae overload is in a small lake and has wiped the entire fish population out. This lake would had a number of bales of barley straw added annually , anyone have any idea on the amounts per acre required or any other helpful info
