Albania - next property hotspot?


Its funny you should mention Albania, because pyramid selling scams almost destroyed their economy a decade ago. The IMF prepared a report which makes for interesting reading.

Yes, I know about the problems in the past - the pyramid schemes, the energy crisis, the roads conditions, etc.... But Im more interested in the future of Albania. And I noticed the EU has already started funding Albania's improvement:

Also in Tirana, I can only see things getting better, brand new car dealerships opening, new telecommunications offices, new shopping centres, and residential developments nearly selling out before they can start being built.... Surely these are all good signs?

And no, Im not connected to the company I bought from, just to clarify any conflict of interest, Im just curious on other investors feedback
 
Albania is rife with corruption, crime and Mafia-type gangs. I would not invest there.
 

I see no reason why the Albanians should be spared the sight of huge cranes, shifty estate agents and hordes of sunburnt paddies and brits invading their country in search of cheap property.

Doesn't stop folk buying in Bulgaria. I'd be giving them all a wide berth-anything in the Balkans. They're only a heartbeat away from civil war most of the time anyway.
 
I don't know if Murph is being serious, or else he hasn't travelled in the region.

But Albania is a no go area for at least 5 years, I've been there, liked some of it, but it's severely unstable, has the Kosovo question on it's border and not like it's a small thing, but corruption, crime and non-progressive thinking are the norm.

Not a very nice place to be after dark!
 
Slightly tongue in cheek but I stand by it. I wouldn't put my money into most of the Balkans. I haven't been but I have some croatian friends who openly admit to even Croatia being "dodgy". At the end of the day there is bitter hatred in the region. This may peter out orit may come back with a bang. I understand the lumping together of these people into Yogoslavia was a huge mistake, but I'm not sure it's all over down there. Serbia/Albania/Macedonia totally out of the question. Bulgaria is as bad IMO.

It's up to individuals of course. Bit too risky for me and with no fundamentals in the region apart from tourism.

You do know that Albania was never part of Yugoslavia.

Yes, I do know that. Albania is in the balkans though.

Oh, and as an aside...never call a Slovenian a 'balkan'. They view themselves most definitely as Europeans and look west, not south.
