Hi,

Have any of the wise people of AAM been to Alaska? Not exactly the most popular destination for Irish people so was wondering whats worth doing, wheres good to stay etc.

Sorry for keeping it so general but am going there for a week this summer (anchorage will be my base) and am at a bit of a loss regarding what to do.

Thanks
WB

Anchorage is not that big a city and you can pretty much explore it in a day or so on foot. If you really want to explore Alaska you'll either need to rent a car and or go on an organised tour which will usually have an offroad segment, there are tonnes of tour organisers out there so have a look around. Highlights of anochorage area include Chugach park and Portage glacier. Get a seaplane tour as well, supposed to be really good.

BTW don't expect to be the only Irishman in town! Alaska is a very popular destination with Irish people who mainly come on cruises up from Vancouver and Seattle.
