There is no apostrophe in the possessive "Its" for the same reason there is no apostrophe in "hers".

Understood the second one. So why is there an apostrophe before the 's', and not after? Is it not possessive also?

The second one is a plural possessive, and the first one is singular possessive.

I didn't know the apostrophe was placed before the 's' with a singular possessive.

er ... not quite correct.

Sometimes it means it has.

As in ... it's been such a long day!

British Isles

Getting somewhat back to the original topic I was in Manchester yesterday, in the taxi on the way to the airport the driver asked me which terminal I wanted, as I wasn't sure he asked me where I was going. When I replied Dublin he assured me it was terminal 3 I needed, I discovered afterwards that this is the terminal for domestic flights only, so it's not just Alan that thinks we're in the UK.
