AITI Taxation exams

Hi,
Im new to AAM but would be very grateful if any of you out there could help me with my query. Im interested in sitting the AITI prof exams. I am currently in the middle of my training for another profession. Im aware that its a 3 year part-time course therefore, the Higher Education Grant scheme wont cover the cost. My employer is neither in a position nor is he inclined to sponsor me. What I really want to know is if anyone knows of any financial assistance available for this particular course??
Any and all advice appreciated. Thanx!

Doing part 3. I think I have a similar background to yourself. I've got no financial assistance and up to this year no tax credit has been allowed. I am assume that you've talked to staff in the institute but if not give them a ring.

Also am doing Part 3 and am not in practice but instead in IT.
Have forked out 2k each of the 3 yrs and have contacted the Institute re this and they are not an approved body so you will have to pay it out of your own pocket.

Have passed all the exams so far but unlikely this will continue in Part 3 as I am manic at work and have found it difficult to even get a job interview as a trainee in Cork so motivation is dwindling a bit.

The 1 interview I did go to was for a starting wage of 10k, realise there will be a huge drop but was thinking late teens as I am 30 and work in a client facing job at the moment so have good comm / interpersonal / etc skills and also am currently on 50k.

If anyone knows any firm interested in a recruiting someone with my profile then let me know please, would work a lot of hrs to get exposure and no problem in accepting a wage circa 18k.....sorry about the rant
 

Do the institute of tax have a list of trainee positions? €10K sounds crazy.... trainee accountants who are graduates with 3 years of exams ahead of them would usually start on about €16K in small firms.

Have you tried sending your cv to some accountancy firms? I'd try small/medium and Big 4, they may possibly have positions in their tax departments...
 
The Institute have a tax adviserlisting and last year I used this and sent my cv to quite a few firms in Cork and followed up with calls.

To be fair virtually all took the time to call and stated that they only hore 1 trainee per year and sometimes none and currently they have no positions.

I am going to put the head down from Jan 3rd and do all I can which is to pass Part 3 and if I do this then I will start looking again.

Am in this racket, all exams got. If you get all the exams then this is quite a good endorsement so dont sell yourselves short. Qualified AITI should open a few doors.

You should be looking for 20's at least (if nil experience). Anyone qualified & some experience should be in 30's. Once have exams and some experience push into the 40's & up.

Best chance of a job is bigger firms where might have more use for you - donkeys years of experience probably more relevant in small outfit where have to be jack of all trades to all manner of clients.

Move to Dublin if can stomach it to boost yourself up the ranks. As a general rule, unless your employer is progressive you'll probably go higher faster and be on better money by changing rather than waiting for it to dawn on current boss that you might be due a few more bob.
