hi
i have a house thats a few months old. when i flush a toilet ( i have tried it on them all upstairs) a loud vibrating sound comes in the attic. i have gone up to attic and its coming from the pipe thats going on to the ballcock in the tank. if you catch the pipe or just touch it then the sound stops but if you leave it go then it starts again. does anyone know whats causing this???

That's water hammer. If you secure the pipes (much as you do when you hold them) you should be fine.

but the pipe that i hold to get rid of the noise is not connected to any wall, its running along the ground and into the tank

Then use the pipe clips to fix it to the floor.

Water hammer can effect pipe-joints and eventually cause leaks - pretty poor plumbing job, I'd say.

yeah, there was no water at all when we moved in first. cowboys again.

its attached to the floor in one part, could it be any pipe thats causing this , wud holding this pipe fix the problem if another pipe was causing it
