AIB visa and switching

I tend to carry large amounts on nmy AIB visa card( stupid, I know, and am working hard to change it) and am paying 18.9% interest. I am bneing courted by other card providrers at 0 - 2.9% balance transfer, which given the € I owe, will make a big difference, even when the intro rate expires, so very tempting. So I talked with AIB about giving me a lower rate to keep my business - good customer, as in I hardly ever pay off balance for 22 years... appearantly no joy / not possible .. I can apply for an AIB master card and transfer, but they dont offer existing customers any more favourable rates... Can this be true, or what buttons do i need to press in there? Have heard from friends who did similar with MBNA and they dropped rates immediately
Cheers

Thanks for that Clubman.. good link ok, and good advice.... dont really want to go the new card route, but still looking for anyone who had particular experience of getting lower rate from AIB

Don't waste your time. If you've asked and they've said no then move. It's their loss.

If another provider is willing to offer you a lower rate and you're happy with the other aspects of the card (Internet Payment, Late Fees, etc, etc) then go for it.

I find AIB customer service excellent when I have an enquiry or a problem, but they are very inflexible in other areas. It's swings and roundabouts. Overall I'm happy to stay with them.
