I faxed a request to be put onto a variable rate two weeks ago and havent heard anything since.. Is this the norm?

I sent fax on 8 December and haven't got any confirmation either. I might ring them later.

Well, i rang them, and the great news is i've been on the variable rate from the date i sent the fax! Even better is i've no penalty to pay so i'll take that as an early chrimbo pressie! Delighted!!

AIB have said that they didn't receive my fax and will look for it !!

I have the delivery report from the fax in the Internet shop I sent it from but the date on the machine must be set wrong as it says it was sent on 2 Feb 2008 and not on 8 Dec 2008.

Where can I go from here? The shop I sent it from is quite small - maybe their bill for Fax/telephone will show what numbers were dialled?

Is there any other way to prove I sent it?

You can try that but it is unlikely to help your case - the bank will maintain they never got the fax regardless of the evidence you have.

Just an update: I got an itemised bill showing the fax being sent with the correct date and time. I sent a fax to AIB outlining my complaint and all of the details. I got a letter yesterday to confirm they have changed my mortgage to standard variable -€300 per month saving!!

I was kind of hoping for an apology too though - In 18 months AIB have (1) taken approx €1,800 from my current account to repay mortgage even though this isn't the repayment amount and the normal repayment was made. They refunded this within a few days (after a few phonecalls and e-mails).

(2) Charged the incorrect rate from last April to October. Again, after many phone calls they refunded money.

(3) As outlined above they 'lost' a fax requesting a change from Fixed to Standard variable.

Do other people have as much trouble as this? It seems totally unacceptable and I will be keeping a very close eye on my statements from now on.
