Hi Guys, new poster here. Quick one, I have a AIB online Regular Savings Account, I noticed that the rate has been reduced but I dont recall receiving or reading any notice about it like previously, Have I missed something?
Spoke to my local AIB Branch and they advused that as its a variable rate, they can reduce it whenever they want, which I am fairly sure is incorrect. Can anyone advise?
They did advise, they just did not do so by direct correspondence with you. They certainly took out advertisements in national newspapers advising of the fact that they were reducing their rates (where I saw them).
They can alter the rates (hence why they are called variable), they need to provide notice that they will do so, they provide notice by advertisement.
If it is the date of the rate change, as per their website and as per CiaranT's updated Key Post ... the latest rate change is effective as of 6th May 2015. If it is the date of their previous rate change, I couldn't tell you (though it will be available to you on either a statement or by requesting the info from them). If it is the date of the advertisement, I couldn't tell you that either, I recall seeing it but I wouldn't have specifically noted the date.
