AIB / Goodbody stability

Hi all,

I have moved my deposit / current account to Rabobank and Ulsterbank just until the dust settles and I have faith in these Irish banks again.

Anyways, I was worried about AIB and it's not secure according to a lot of experts. However I do online sharedealing on Goodbody online, and they are owned by AIB. I have a portfolio of considerable value and I would like to know if any of the experts in here have opinions on the security of that should the bank.

My specific question is, in the event of a run on the AIB, is Goodbody safe and does it operate from a completely seperate fund?

Goodbody Stockbrokers is not owned by AIB anymore.

In general though, people who buy and hold for the long term should hold shares the old fashioned way where possible - i.e. share certificates.

There are or there have been big legal cases against stockbrokers and if they lost these, their capital base might be wiped out.
