Hi All,

Just came across this site and it seems really useful.

Myself and my boyfriend just applied to Fingal.

We have a 2 year old daughter.

Just looking for some info.

Do you have any idea as to how long we will be waiting to find out if we got approved, plus if we get approval do you no how long we could be waiting for a house.

We are looking for a 3 bed house.

Thanks,
Lor

Re: Just Applied

The answers are on this site / from Fingal.

- Do you have the finances to take out an affordable mortgage ??

No point in applying if you do not have the sufficent finances.

You will be entered into a lottery - so there is no specific timescale.

Re: Just Applied

We have some savings yea, I didn't think that Fingal was lottery. I was under the impression that Dublin City were lottery and Fingal was a waiting list.

Re: Just Applied

Lor you are right Fingal is a waiting list not a lottery. I know from others that there is a backlog on Fingal processing the applications (couple of months). In relation to the length of time waiting to be offered etc, did you on on the local list or general list ? If you are on the local list you will possibly be waiting a shorter time as they offer a certain percentage to the local list and then a smaller percentage to general list. Regarding the 3 bed house, they seem to be few and far between to be honest. I personally found fingal excellent to deal with.

Re: Just Applied

Hi Topgal,

Thanks for the reply. To be honest we just filled in the application and dropped it in. She asked was there anywhere in specific that we would like to live, we would like Balbriggan most but we said to her that we would like anywhere in the Fingal area, as we hoped this would be quicker. So to be honest I dont have a clue as to if we are on the Local or General list. Do you no if they decide this or is this follows after the approval process

Cheers,
Lor

Re: Just Applied

Hello Lor

Most of the houses being offered are in Balbriggan at the moment and a lot of people are turning them down so you have a good chance of getting a place in about a years time, maybe even less as Balbriggan seems to be a very unpopular place because its a bit far out. I was offered to view a house there after being on the list for 10 months last October and I was about 550 on the list at the time. I couldn't take it because its too far from where I work.

And as I said in the Fingal CoCo thread that I got a letter in the post this morning about 11 apartments available in Balbriggan.

To answer your question you will be on the local list depending on where you live, so if you live in Balbriggan you will be on that local list as well as the general list as I understand it. Best of luck!

Re: Just Applied

Hi stephen1381,

Thanks for that, it actually sounds quite positive. Only thing is I am from Artane so that will prob go against us with the Fingal area, it will prob slow our application down.

best of luck to you,
Lor

Lor, as you are from Artane, you will go on the general list. If you are looking for a place in balbriggan, you should be offered quite quickly. When you get approved, it mgt be no harm in phoning Fingal and letting them know you would like balbriggan, the fact that alot have turned offers down due to distance etc. Wish you all the best, good luck

p.s if i can help in any way dont hestitate to p.m. me. i have gone through the whole process and have a place of my own thanks to Fingal.

When you apply it asks you what areas you want to live in so there's not point in phoning them to tell them.

Again as on many other threads there is no timescale - it's as long as it takes.
Some people get housed in 6 months as they are happy with an apartment - others it can take a year or longer if you have your heart set or need to live in a house if you have kids / pets etc.

have a good read through the previous threads there is a good deal of useful info there.

I'm afraid it's a case of waiting and you'll be called when your name moves up the list - phoning Fingal is just a waste of both your time - they won't tell you where you are on the list and most times they honestly don't know when developments will be ready until they are handed the keys.

When we filled in the application it never asked what area we would like best, does this happen when you get contacted by them?

When I applied it asked you for an area of preference!!I would definitly ring and tell them you are interested in Balbriggan when I was on list they told me a lot of people had been asked NOT to be contacted about Balbriggan so they moved a lot further down list than avg when it came to Balbriggan can do no harm anyway best of luck

There is an older version of the application form floating around that does not include the area of prefernce page - i filled this out originally - they will still accept the form - you can ring them with you reference number and they can update your file - i sent a seperate letter in just telling them the areas i was interested in
