Does anybody have any info on apartments being offered in Northern Cross, Dublin 13. Also has anybody gotton their affordable house through Shared Ownership Scheme financing? Many thanks

I got my apt through the shared ownership scheme. I also bougth them out and paid the claw back before the year was up.

Hi Clongriffin.
Through the Shared ownership were you free to pick out the apt which you wanted without the council having an input into the choice?

Hi, no unfortunately it doesnt really work like that now. You dont get a choice were you want to live. They basically give you an offer, with me they rang and said, we have a 2 bed apt we want to offer you, do you want it. I asked for the address, and hey presto they had the full address of their offer, i said yes i would go for a view, and luckily i was right beside were they were anyhow, so i drove over that night and had a peek myself *while hiding from security* :) - anyhow, its usually an offer of an exact place that you get, it used to be you could pick out your own, but with DCC you cant anymore. That is why they ask you to be careful with application, as in application it does state area's you wish to be considered for. I only applied for my local area cos didnt want to have to turn down places too far away and then be dropped to bottom of list.

Has shared ownership changed in the last few years? A girl I work with bought her house through shared ownership a few years ago, once she had her approval she was able to go and find a house, (once it was in the same council area as she was approved for) then she bought the % of the house she could afford and the council bought the other %, she bought a second hand house so it didn't even have to be in a new estate the council just sent a surveyor out to check it. Has anyone bought under the shared ownership scheme recently, I'd love some info on it as I can only find info on shared ownership.

thats deffinitely a better idea. I think cos i originally went through the affordable housing, and then was directed to shared ownership could have been why i didnt get to pick were i wanted to go. The property i bought (i'm only in the apt a year and a few months so was still on the new system) was offered as affordable housing first.

I just rang Fingal and they don't do shared ownership in this way, I'm a bit disappointed I have to admit, they told me that DCC do this but the property has to be in DCC so that rules it out for me as the area I want to live in is in Fingal. I'm actually hoping that house prices will come down a bit so I can afford to buy on the open market!!
