Hi Guys,
My partner and I have recently accepted a house in Esker Hills portlaoise from laois coco. We're due to receive the keys in January and are getting the mortgage for the house from laois coco also. We were told by them that we need to organise a solicitor but to be honest we really feel out or our dept with all this legal stuff. Can anyone explain what happens now ,what price is a solicitor or any info you have at all would be great.

Cheers,
R

Hi ya,
I recently bought a house under Affordable housing from Kilkenny co co. I picked my own solicitor and gave the details to the council. Just had to meet with her once to sign some documents (transfer of deeds, family home act etc) and had a couple to telephone conversations with her, (the councils solicitors were quiet slow on their end so she had to chase them a bit). She said there was a lot less work for her to do than a normal house purchase as the councils solicitors did most of the legal work. She had quoted me approx €1,000 but dropped the fees to €570 (VAT incl) in the end!! Make sure you get a quote first (they have to give it in writing if you request by law). A friend of mine bought a house in the same estate under affordable housing and her solicitor charged her over €1,000 for the same service!!
