affordable housing (existing developments) for €75 a week in Cork CoCo

Just heard this and i am wondering how some people get these?

womans mother told a friend of mine

lady on her own single , got a house in Passage , outside douglas

got a house under affordable housing list , former council houses but they are lovely

for €75 a week =300 a month
we dont know how much deposit she put down, or what her circumstances were, but shes in her 30's single with no children
Good luck to her , but i would like that as well and i guess alot of posters would
But this is what we all want , i got forms for douglas etc but did'nt fill them in , as i thought my records of savings etc were not good enough,
when i now hear this , i am wondering should i just fill in the forms etc

we all know about the new developments etc, but what about previous council estates that say might be come avaiil do these get offered as well ?? personally it is nicer to go into already existing developments , as u can see what the environment etc is like

any one have any ideas of have been offered say houses in existing developments , say places where county council prev built

It's possible the Council bought up a house in an existing estate and sold it on as an affordable , I think this does happen.

Although 300 per month sounds very cheap - I haven't heard of any affordables being that cheap !

I applied for the Douglas/ Carrigaline scheme and it can take up to a year for houses to be allocated.

Probably the best thing to do is send in your forms asap regardless of your savings etc, you can always send in updated statements as your savings increase.

That way you can be considered for any affordable homes ( new or existing) that come up in the areas that you have expressed interest in

I'd say your friend is mistaken. I have been on the Passage West affordable housing list for three years and in that time there has only been one small group of new houses given out. She may have bought an ex council house using shared ownership. This sounds more likely. If she is on her own with a low income she would also get mortgage relief which would explain the low repayments.
