Affordable Housing - Cork County Council

Hello everyone, I'm new to this site and I just wanted to get advice on the latest affordable housing drive from the Cork County Council. The deadline is Thursday 26th June to have the application in.
I'm single, no dependents but would prefer a house and not an apartment. I don't have much spending power and would be afraid that if I rule out an apartment, I might not get anything. I've driven around and looked at quite a number of estates and to be fair some of the apartments are really nice but again, because of my lack of funds, I might end up with a matchbox.
Sorry, if this isn't the right forum, but I'm not sure how the point system works and the council are not in a position to say much.

Hi Madge69

I've been on the Affordable Housing list for over 4 years and was in a similar boat to yourself. Applied as a single applicant with not too much spending power but wanted a house. I've been offered a 2 bed house but turned it down as I'm holding out for a 3 bed one as I'm now applying with my partner and with the clawback system I think it's worth waiting for what you want. The points systems works as follows: You are allocated a certain amount of points according to how you meet the criteria e.g. if you are from the area you are applying you might get 5 points, if you live/work near the area you might get 3 points, you get a certain amount of points for each year you are on the list.

PS. The thread Affordable Housing - Process/Plans Cork County on this website is a good insight into how the system works and what experience people have had.

Thanks Viv, that's really helpful. I don't know anyone else who has applied and I've been trawling through the threads to get a better idea. I don't mind waiting either, I've been renting for so long, another few years won't make much of a difference!
