Hi
Myself and my partner applied for an ah last year but since we applied he hurt his back and was on disability for a while but his boss has had to let him go because he can not do the work anymore, he was kitchen fitter.
We got call today from council arrange a viewing, which we are thrilled about but now that my patner is unemployed and on ub does it mean that will we not get offered the house after all.
I have been offered a part time job but will not be starting it till summer and my partner has applied for jobs but has had no luck so far.

I think it comes down to whether or not you would get and could pay for a mortgage. Unfortunately it sounds like you wouldn't be given a mortgage at the moment.

I would write to the council and explain that these are temporary circumstances due to illness. Ask them not to count your inability to fund this offer as a refusal. That way you won't lose your place on the list and will hopefully be able to accept in the future when your circumstances change. I'm sorry that you're in this situation, don't lose heart though, you'll get another offer.

Yes as the poster above has stated, with neither of you in permanent employment the chances of you getting a mortgage are nil.

The advice on asking the council not to give you a black mark is a good idea.

Best of luck in the future.

If you cannot afford a property it is not counted as a refusal - you just hold on to your position on the list until you are in a better financial position, be it a month or a year down the line (a friend of mine is in this situation and she actually works in the council). You should make the council aware of your situation and tell them you will contact them as soon as you are in a position to get approval for a mortgage. I hope everything works out for you soon :)

This will affect your eligbilety for the scheme - to qualify you must be a min of 6 months in permanent employment of 2 years if you are self employed. It does state if your postion changes you must notify the council.

When they find out you will no longer be eligble so you more tha likely will be taken of the list and asked to re-apply when you circumstances change

We did notify council when he was let go.
We are going to go for the next lot of houses which will be ready early summer as partner is starting work next wk so girl in council said she will ring us with a viewing date for next lot of houses.
