My partner bought his home before we moved in together. Is it possible for him to have me added as joint home owner?

Is the only way of getting me onto the mortgage by remortgaging?

Yes, i'm not sure how they do it but when i asked way back in 2006 could my future partner be added onto the mortgage, the lady interviewing me gave an emphatic yes.

Hi,
I am also trying to get information on how to do this. I''ve been told that it will be very difficult and that partner will be liable to pay gift tax. Not sure how true this is though.

Hi, it is true, your partner is not able to gain from your land/property. If he/she was added to the deeds, he would only be able to be added to a certain % of it. Unless you are married, if you are married, he can indeed accept 50% and be put onto your property deeds. My partner is currently 50% on our mortgage, however he is only 9% on our deeds. This is due to the fact i was not able to give him a gift of any more than 9% of the value of the property, think it was something like 27k or less or something like that. If he does go on it, he will be liable for tax. I did this when i bought the council out. I do remember asking if my partner could go on when i was with the council and they would not accept it then. So i had to buy them out to have him on the property. I don't know exactly if this is deffo true as alot of info u get from the council can change from one person u deal with to the next. But i was going to buy them out anyhow, so just went ahead with this option. When you then marry your partner, he will automatically be entitled to 50% of the property and you can change the deeds to show this also.
