Hi Pistolpete,

Welcome to AAM.
The plan you are on at the moment, covers all public, private and hi-tech hospitals including a private room. The day to day refunds are low
considering the cost of the plan. The hospital cover is excellent all round.

There are alternative options available, either including the private room(single occupancy), or a semi-private room(2 or 4 beds).
Private Room alternative options;
1. Laya Simplicity plan; price 1370pa; all public, private hospitals(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered,
inpatient excess is capped at 100 x 2 max per year for all admissions, regardless of how many. Day case excess 50 per procedure.
There is no excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover, refund of 50% for gp, consultants, etc. - the first 100 not allowed.

2. Laya Connect Simplicity; price 1367pa; all public, private hospitals(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered,
inpatient excess is capped at 150 x 2 max per year for all admissions, regardless of how many. Day case excess 100 per procedure.
There is no excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover, refund of 50% for gp, consultants, etc. 1 euro excess, upto a max refund
of 1000 per year. (50% of 2000 = 1000).

3. Control 300 Create; price 1181pa; all public, private hospitals(including private room fully covered) and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered,
Inpatient excess is 300 per admission, Day case excess 50 per procedure. There is no excess to pay in any public hospital.
Good day to day cover included, 1 euro excess, refund of 80 per consultant visit, 30 per gp visit, etc.

If full cover for a private room in a private hospital is not a priority, the following option is worth considering which include semi-private room cover.
Details as follows;
1. Laya Simply Connect plan; price 1230(1265 from 1 April) all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, inpatient excess capped at 150 x 2
max per year for all admissions regardless of how many. Day case excess 50 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital.
Good day to day cover included, 1 euro excess, refund of 50% for consultants, gp, dental, optical, physio etc, upto a max refund per year of 500.
(50% of 1000 = 500).

There is full cover for hip and knee replacement surgery in all private and hi-tech hospitals on all 4 plans mentioned.
VHI and Irish Life have a shortfall of 2000 to 3000 on this type of surgery in private hospitals.

Regards, Snowyb
