Advice on 2nd hand car

Looks a decent price alright. Here are a few similar private sales with are in the same ball park price, which is not bad since yours is from a dealer.

FWIW, I drove a 1.4L golf recently and found them very, very down on power, dealer even agreed they were known in the trade for this.
 
I drive a 01 1400cc Golf and it is very slow.

Good reliable car, steady as a rock, but as heavy as two !! And the 1400cc engine isn't powerful enough to get it up to speed quickly. Might suit a poorer built car, but the Golf's a heavy car.

Havign said that, I find the 1.4 engine very economical, especially if you drive it easy.

I am looking for some info here. I am thinking about buying a 2.0, Diesel, T3S model, hatchback, 78000 miles. What would be the average MPG? When does the timing belt need to be changed.
