Advice for renting to family

Hi my other half lives with his mum and is wanting to move out and us buy a house together. He owns the house and the mortgage but his mum lives there rent free she gets no benefits from the council. To afford to move out he was wondering if he could rent the property to his mum so she would be able to receive benefits. His mum moving into council property is not an option she will not go. Does any one know how we go about this or knows any one who does. Many thanks

What "benefits" are you talking about? What income has she at the moment?

at the moment all she receives is her pension, we were wondering can she claim housing benefit etc

What do you mean by "housing benefit"? Are you living in Ireland? Rent Supplement? See http://www.welfare.ie/foi/swa_rentmort.html for conditions to get this. would she be a "bona fide" tenant? She may qualify for Living Alone Allowance on her pension, as well as other add-ons. check www.welfare.ie for that.
