Advantages/disadvantages with applying for mortgage without spouse

Hi all,
Just wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages to applying for a mortgage solo when married?

Can't see any bank considering this. Family Home Protection Act would apply for husband & wife & restrict the Bank in the event of default.
 
As Brendan says, not really a runner, most banks insist on joint mortgage for family home.

The family home protection Act does not mean that all or any mortgages have to be in joint names.

If the OP is purchasing a 'family home' then the bank will, in general, insist that the mortgages is in joint names. OP has not stated what he is purchasing.
 
Very true! No problem getting a buy to let mortgage in sole name if married (assuming anyone is still giving them), we all assumed it was a family home query for some reason.
 
I've just remembered I think BB did a key post on whether it's best to go with married or single mortgages, OP should have a look at that.
