The family home protection Act does not mean that all or any mortgages have to be in joint names.
If the OP is purchasing a 'family home' then the bank will, in general, insist that the mortgages is in joint names. OP has not stated what he is purchasing.
Very true! No problem getting a buy to let mortgage in sole name if married (assuming anyone is still giving them), we all assumed it was a family home query for some reason.
