so I worked it our and they are charging 1.75% of the cost of the goods.. but I need to check what the terms and conditions are here... whether it is just theft from the house or lost out and about...When I worked in the area up to a few years ago the rates were more or less similar across the main home insurers at:
Unspecified All Risks 2%
Specified All Risks 1.5% (usually excluding hearing aids!)
Bikes 8%
However each insurer has different minimum and maximum sums insured for each category and different definitions of what items can be covered. So the only way to find out is to ask your own insurer, and ask for a breakdown of cost per item or category to get a better idea.
adding two watches and a bracelet... asking for 1.75%... but unsure of the terms.. need to contact them again...What are you adding and what are they asking?
The €35 quote by poster Messyleo above was for cover when stolen from the house only, not away from the house.€35 to insure a €1000 bike seems good value to me. The bike would be covered against theft and damage anywhere away from the house. Mind you, that probably the premium for a pedal cycle. The electric bikes are a different kettle of fish and many insurers will NOT cover them at all. If it is an electric bike, check the Public Liability section of the policy as well as liability for the use of same might be excluded.
That seems very expensive. I wonder if there could be a misunderstanding. Was the bike being added as an All Risks item. The reason I suggest this, is that insurers do not ask the value of your three piece suite, or your large screen TV, or your super dooper American fridge. All are covered for theft from the house and covered within the global contents sum insured. The €35 quote by poster Messyleo above was for cover when stolen from the house only, not away from the house.
How much are they worth?adding two watches and a bracelet... asking for 1.75%... but unsure of the terms.. need to contact them again...
