Im just enquiring, my husband had his mortgage before we met and we've recently put my name on the deeds, im just wondering if my name is to be added to the mortgage, do we have to apply again or what is the procedure?
Thanks in advance
I doubt very much that your name is on the deeds if it is not also on the mortgage! The Mortgagee ( the lender) needs to consent to any change in ownership
Did you go to a solicitor to put your name on the deeds? Or did you just both decide to do it by agreement? But it has not actually happened yet?
Is there any reason why your name needs to be on the deeds ? or the mortgage?
Thanks mf1
Yes we did it all through a solicitor and the bank about a month ago (took about six months) but I'm not on the mortgage which i want to be in case anything ever happens to me so my husband wouldn't have to worry about the house financially. (nothing wrong with me just future proofing everything at the moment)
Thanks for any replies
How come you went through this process at the time with the solicitor and the bank and managed to get on the deeds but not on the mortgage? That is more than unusual.
And why, having done that, do you now want to be on the mortgage? Why don't you just take out a life policy to cover the mortgage in the event that you die before the mortgage is discharged?
Hi mf1
We discussed it with the solicitor about going on the deeds and did as instructed( we had friends who died and left everything in a mess it took forever to sort out for the families) so as we both had properties (prior to marriage) we were trying to make life easier if anything happened to either one of us and be left without a huge mortgage. Now you've got me worrying ?????
I like the idea of a life policy i hadn't thought of that.
