Heading to Doolin for a week away with the wife and kids - a 5 and 1 year old. Has anyone got any recommendations for family friendly activities in the surrounding area? -- the tourist websites give a fairly good list of activities but I am really interested in peoples personal experiences both good and bad of the area.
Thanks!

Both are a drive away but well worth it for the adults and your 5 year old: the dolphin watching trips at Kilrush and Carrigaholt. The Carrigaholt boat travels around the Shannon estuary and there are an incredible number of sightings. The Kilrush one is further up-river and not as exciting but I find the operators a nicer bunch.

Cliffs of Moher are down the road as is Lahinch - could do some surf lessons in Lahinch. Also some pitch and put in the area too. Short crossing to the Arann Island also from Doolin.
