when you say track food costs - is it a food manufacturing business- then all the direct food costs would be coded to a raw material purchase general ledger code and say packaging to another General ledger code; as you are using a Mac many of the standard desktop packages , for example Sage will not work for you. You could of course look at some of the Cloud packages where your Mac wont be an issue. However , before purchasing any system you would need to be very specific in your requirements.
