Account / Relationship Management

How can I find a role which is an account / relationship management type role but not in a sales context? I am a sales professional for a number of years now who would be at large account level, however I need to get out of sales because I have realised that this target driven environment is never going to afford me the sort of job flexibility I want to have in the future when the children are going to school. My current role does not allow part time/ broken up parental leave. I think it's the same in most sales jobs.

I have recently realised that in my company there are account management style jobs in areas outside sales - this is perfect for me. I have applied for these but want to find other similar roles in other companies to apply for too. Thing is they are hard to identify, I only managed it here through networking and people sitting down with me explaining what these roles are . . .they're not called 'account management' they're various types of process/service/business/resource type managers buried in large departments I would otherwise know nothing about . . seem to have no major skill requirements except for talking to people and being professional and maybe slightly technical, many of them seem to be not that different from what I do now! .. . .how do I get hold of these roles in other companies? When I search for account management I get the same sales stuff. Any pointers on what kind of job titles I should be looking at? I am in IT sales but my strengths would be relationships, negotiation etc.

How about vendor management? Where you're on the purchasing side of the equation.

Thanks for that - it's something I thought of some time but had forgotten about. You're right, I deal with procurement all the time and I think I know the job. Thanks!
