ACA Chartered route Change Career

I am a computer science graduate, working in clare

I would like to make a career change to accountancy, having read all relevant posts I just have one question

can one persue the professional 2 course/exams without being signed up to an accounting firm? if so are they available in limerick or cork? .. or by distance learning, home based study

My reasoning for going the chartered route is to make use of my (non business) degree and I would have a better chance of being taken on by big 4 or top 20 accounting firms in ireland having completed professional 2 ... on the other hand it would be useful having professional 2 accounting exams going looking for work in business sector

Yes. It is possible under a new scheme, the details of which you will find on the Institute website - a PDF document.

Very much possible under new scheme. U can take prof 2 and 3 without training contract.
But u r considering this route for wrong reasons. Accountancy firms take people from all qualifications, computer science or arts etc. I'll say apply for training contract now, if u get refused then take the second route.
