Hi
does anyone know if the states is the only place to buy abercrombie clothes from? the cost of delivery is huge and the vat and shipping on top of that makes it ridiculous. any help appreciated.

Hi,

I've bought some lovely Abercrombie stuff from an Irish seller on eBay (presents for nieces and nephews, I'm too old for it!) and the postage costs were very reasonable. Just checked and the seller has nothing listed at the moment but if you go to

http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=bernieoc57

and click 'Contact member' (near the top right of the page) you can check if they have anything in stock.

Hope that helps.

Yup...the states is then only place. Was in the 5th Avenue store last week and it was jammed as usual!
Worst thing is apparently they're getting rid of the brand completely and just going to call all their stuff Banana Republic (the main company)
Apparently the stuff isn't actually that popular (except in Ireland!!!) kind of like Gap was in the 90's. Cool outside America but seen as cheap and twee in the US

Kinda like wearing a fake Rolex in the 90s - just so people would know you'd been to Thailand or Hong Kong - A&F is a sign you, or your folks, go to NY for the shopping.

And A&F is cheap and twee, what must Old Navy be like ?

Unlikely given that Banana Republic (and Old Navy) are part of GAP.
A&F is a seperate company. They are supposed to be opening a branch in London in 2007 as part of a European expansion. Dublin will hardly be too far behind given the popularity of the stuff here.

May even be a franchise idea in there for someone!!

(More off topic - apologies).
Yes, I heard that A&F were looking at opening one of their first European shops in Ireland - as the Irish market most closely resembled the American one.

What I find strange in the U.S., is the fact that they seem to prefer Old Navy to the Gap or Banana Republic - whereas Irish/U.K. residents seem to prefer Banana Republic (because it costs more). Anyone else notice this trend?

My sister got my son a fab Abercrombie top a couple of weeks ago on their website and it arrived within a week of ordering it. However I was in Moran's clothes shop in Roscrea, Co. Tipp about 2 weeks ago and they had a couple of Abercrombie things. They said they're getting them in very shortly and basically just had a couple of samples of what they will be getting in. Interesting because I was at a seminar recently and they mentioned how there was no shop in Ireland selling them. I'll pop back there again in a few weeks and check to see if they are stocking them for sure.

Ask where they're getting that A&F from. Could be dodgy.

I don't think it's true that Americans prefer Old Navy. It's a big market. But certainly Old Navy (a GAP sub-brand by the way) has been very successful - they managed to make cheap clothes fashionable, kind of like Penneys have done to a large extent in Ireland and the UK. A successful formula if you can pull it off!

A&F are definately in either BT or Arnotts, the Mrs saw them. Limited range I think, will check with her.

yeah they used to have a few items in arnotts on henry street, dont know if they still stock it??
