I locked the keys of my car in it last night and rang the AA this morning! I only signed up to the service a few months back and i have to say i was truly impressed with their service today! I had made a cup of coffee and was barely half way down it when the guy turned up!Door unlocked and keys got in less than 10 minutes! Theres very few services that have really impressed me lately..but felt i had to write about this one!Ive no connection with the AA (apart from being a member..does that count?)!Anyway..job well done and will definitely be keeping my subscription going

It depends on the area you live in (cities) and how busy they are, to what service you get. It's like everything, supply and demand.

We have had 10 "AA tow in's" in the last 8 working days, most people were not happy with how long they had to wait/ the way they were towed in etc.

Now "AA" fix 8/9 out of 10 (I can remember what they quote) cars on the side of the road/house etc, so in real numbers that means they fixed either 80 or 90 other cars that we didn't see in our 30 mile radius (in the country) that we have to cover. (We don't belive there numbers).

So I'm sorry we don't rate them great.

I don't think your to far off Mr2; Whenever I call for assistance they just arrive with a flatbed lorry and wouldn't even look at the engine!

Have to disagree; called them out the other night. He tried everything possible to get it going again before having it towed away. They were reasonably quick (30 minutes) considering it was 01:00 in the morning. No complaints about the service whatsoever. Only thing I will be changing will be to the Rescue+. I was only about 40 miles from home and I was able to get someone to pick me up despite the late hour; but what if I was the other end of the country?

Supply and demand! How many other people call the AA at 1 in the morning!? Not as many as between 7-9 when people are going to work, go out and car wont start etc / 4-7 people going home from work.

In the cities they have more mobile units that go out in small vans and then when required the flat bed tow truck comes out. In the country it's mainly through sub-contractors who will tow to there yard or the nearest garage.

Did he have a tow truck himself or did he come out in the van and you went on your way and he waited for the tow truck? Aslo if you broke down at 1 o'clock, what time did it actually get on the back of the tow truck?

Just wondering if there is any alternative service you would recommend in that case? I've been thinking about joining the AA, but haven't started researching properly yet.

Not yet. I was considering the AA, on the basis of recommendations from friends who've found them great, but was curious whether the poster above had any better ideas.
