We're hoping to have a few days away in mid December and looking for any recommendations on where to go. Not really looking for another city break. Basically we'd ideally like somewhere with a short transfer time from Munich/Geneva/Dusseldorf etc. Open to trying skiing or snowboarding!! Somewhere with shops/restaurants etc but doesn't have to be a huge place. Any ideas???????

Anzere in the Valais. 2 hours by train from Geneva to Sion, which is a fair sized town with lots of shops and reataurants, then 25 minutes up to Anzere by bus. Hotels, shops and a couple of restaurants.

Ski lift so skiing but don't know about snowboarding.

Definately take in a Christmas market. The one in Nuremberg is probably the most famous. The central Europeans definately know how to make Christmas feel 'cozy', if that makes any sense.

Garmisch Patenkirchen (http://www.bergfex.com/garmisch-partenkirchen/) is on the German/Austrian Border not far from Munich, brilliant ski-resort. If you want to go into Austria, Tyrol and Salzburg are covered in ski resorts - also not too far from Munich - the same webpage above will give you information.

Thanks guys. Went to the Christmas market a few years back. Really enjoyed it but just wanted something slightly different this year. More of a town feel than a large city.

Garmisch Patenkirchen is actually somewhere that I looked at and seems pretty close to what we're looking for. Thanks again!
